Total Team Effort

All aspects of the game came together on Tuesday, as the Eagles found success in a non-conference matchup.

POMONA, Calif. --- Nothing was missing from the Biola (12-9) effort on Tuesday night in a competition at Cal Poly Pomona. The Biola Boys were solid at the plate, in the field and on the mound for a 6-2 victorious showing against the hosting Broncos (13-12).

Eight-of-nine BU batters recorded a base hit in the team's 12th win of the season. Tyler Baca and Andrew Lujan led the way with a pair of hits each.

The import rallies for the Biola offense came in the third and fourth frames. The opening runs of the contest came off the back of three-straight singles at the top of the third. Matthew Nyce recorded the pair of RBI, bringing home Rhett Stein and Brandon Thomas for the 2-0 lead. Oscar Serratos brought Nyce to the plate for a three-run frame with a two-out double down the right field line.

The lineup continued to feel the heat in the next inning, as Lujan led things off with a double to right-center. Back-to-back strikeouts stalled the rally for a second but another two-out extra base hit tacked on more runs. This time it was Baca sending the ball back to the right field line for a triple, scoring Nyce and Lujan for a 5-0 BU advantage.

Another big hit propelled Biola to a 6-0 lead. Jorge Lucero opened up the seventh with a second triple for the BU squad. Rylan Greenlee logged the RBI with a grounder to the right side.

The pitching unit came together and put the clamps on the Bronco offense. As a group, the Biola hurlers logged 14 strikeouts, while only giving up three hits and two runs through nine innings. The only two scores for CPP came in an inning with three hit-by-pitches, a pair of walks and no hits.

Jake Anderson put in the longest and most successful stretch on the mound, completing three innings of work with no runs allowed. The righty struck out five-straight batters and did not allow a base runner through his first two innings pitched. Anderson nabbed the win and posted six strikeouts in the process.

With the two-hit effort, Baca improved his hitting streak to 10-straight on Tuesday. The center fielder moved his team-best batting average to .420, while ranking 10th in the nation with a .584 on-base percentage.

The Eagles will return to the diamond on Friday at Azusa Pacific for a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 am.
