PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. --- The Patriot Invitational kicked off on Monday morning at the Poppy Hills Golf Club in Pebble Beach, California. Through one day and two rounds of golf, the Eagles are securely amongst the middle pack in a field of stellar teams.

Four top-10 teams graced the golf course on Monday, while 10 of the 12 competing teams ranked amongst the top 50 in the nation. No. 4 Dallas Baptist sat atop the leaderboard and was followed by No. 3 Limestone in second and No. 10 CSU San Marcos in third. 

No. 27 Biola (307-312-619) tied for sixth after day one action with rounds of 307 and 313 as a team. The first time through the Poppy Hill Golf Club proved to be more favorable for the Eagles. 

Sami Penor led round one with a scorecard of 72 (+1), thanks to an under-par back-nine. The senior tallied three birdies between holes 12,16 and 18, dropping her score by one. On the round, Penor posted five birdies and ended up completing six on the day. The second time seeing the course, Penor turned in a scorecard of 76 (+5), tacking on a birdie on the final hole.

The front nine belonged to Melanie Reyes in round one on Monday. The freshman came through with a birdie on each par three, going even through the first half of the round. Through 18, Reyes followed Penor with a score of 74 (+3). Round two was a bit more difficult, as Reyes offered a score of 80 but found her success on par threes again, notching a birdie on hole three.

Brady Turnquist also came in under 80 on the opening 18 holes on Monday. The sophomore notched a pair of birdies on the way to a round of 77 (+6). 

Lauren Lee and Rachel Shaw rejected the trend and turned up the notch for round two. Lee dropped her score by six strokes between rounds, logging a 78 (+7) on the second 18. The back nine was money for Lee, who logged eight pars through the nine-hole stretch. Shaw saw her total drop by six strokes as well between rounds, finishing at 79 (+8) in round two.

Biola will be back in action for the final round on Tuesday at the Poppy Hills Golf Club.
