March 17, 2022

IRVINE, Calif. --- With both basketball seasons completed for the 2021-2022 campaign, the PacWest Commissioner's Cup standings updated with the new results. A pair of top-half finishes helped Biola hold onto second place heading into the spring season.

The Eagles added 21 points with the winter sports to total 79 points so far in the 2021-2022 school year. The overall average between the seven sports came to 11.29 points for BU. Azusa Pacific was the only squad with either a better total or average following the winter season with 88 points and an average of 12.57.

The Commissioners' Cup is awarded on an annual basis to one PacWest institution. The winning institution is the team that has the best overall average point total based on the number of PacWest sports it sponsors.

The PacWest Commissioner's Cup scoring system awards points to schools based on their finishes in conference-sponsored sports. Point totals vary from sport to sport and are based upon the number of schools competing. Regular-season standings are used for baseball, basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball, while the results of the conference championships in the sports of cross country, golf and tennis.

Men's and women's basketball were the only two sports contributing to the commissioners cup points in the winter months. Both BU squads posted top-five placements, keeping it so that all seven sports have collected at least nine points. Fifteen points is the most available in any one sport and goes to the conference champion.

The BU women utilized a four-game winning streak in the back half of the season to post an 18-11 overall record this year. A 13-7 record in the PacWest earned the team the fifth seed in the conference tournament, before defeating Concordia in the opening round.

On the men's side, Biola saw a similar finish with a first round win against Concordia in the PacWest Tournament. Prior to the tourney, BU put up a 14-6 conference record to nab the third seed.

The next Commissioners' Cup standings will be released following the conclusion of the spring sports season. That season includes men and women's tennis, women's golf, men's and women's track and field, baseball and softball.
