BU Wraps Up at CSU Fullerton

The Ben Brown Invitational came to a close on Saturday with the Eagles collecting multiple top-10 finishes.

FULLERTON, Calif. --- Biola took part in the field events and short distance races on Saturday, completing competition at the Ben Brown Invitational. CSU Fullerton played host to a variety of NCAA schools ranging from all divisions, as the Eagles continued their early season slate.

Hanna Bevan matched her personal-best in the high jump, nabbing second in the competition. The sophomore maxed out at 1.65m to come within .05m of the leader. Joley Sproul and Olivia Doyle tied for eighth in the event, as each athlete capped out at 1.50m.

The long jump events featured ninth-place finishers for the Eagles in the men's and women's events. Cole Muller nabbed the top-10 placement with a mark of 6.47m, while Kenna Chism recorded a 5.15m jump for her first attempt in her collegiate career.

On the track, Muller added to his day with a sprint in the 200. The freshman won his heat and finished 9th overall with a time of 21.94.

Gigi Fierro logged a personal-best in the discus throw, reaching 37.41m for 15th place. In the shot put, Jada Pierce grabbed 14th with a throw of 11.02m.

Christian Lukens was the first to hit the track for Biola, taking part in the 110 hurdles. Lukens tallied a personal-best mark of 16.01 to nab 16th in the event. The hurdler also ran in the 400 hurdles and took 12th place with a time of 57.85.

The sprints continued, as four Eagles ran in the women's 100 hurdles. Heidi Sowers strutted her stuff with a fourth place finish and a mark of 14.90. All four participants logged personal-records, including Sowers, Joley Sproul at 15.41, Sophia Morris at 15.85 and Kenna Chism at 15.89. 

Sowers and Morris kept the momentum going in the  400 hurdles later in the day. Morris came out above her teammate in the longer event, notching fifth place with a personal-best time of 1:05.27. Sowers came in three ticks behind at 1:08.51 in seventh.

Mathias Davis was cruising in the men's 400 race, taking seventh place. The junior recorded a time of 49.39 to collect the top-10 finish.

On the women's side, Shelby Rogers and Robin Ahlquist led the charge in the 400. Rogers landed amongst the top-five at No. 4, while Ahlquist posted a person-best time of 1:00.58 to take 16th.

4x400 relays ended the day at the Ben Brown Invitational. Biola offered up one men's team, which took fourth place with a collective time of 3:21.99. The group of four consisted of Davis, Trevor Hormel, Muller and John Carswell.

The distance runners for BU also competed on Saturday but at the Occidental Distance Carnival, which will be complete later in the evening.
