SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- Action at the Biola Invitational opened up on Thursday at the Grand Country Club. A beautiful day in San Diego was the backdrop for the opening round, as the Eagles cruised into third place through 18 holes.

A field of eight teams came out to compete at the two-day tournament. Top competitors included No. 13 Cal State San Marcos, who finished day one in the lead and No. 21 Biola (313), who was third through the action. Point Loma nabbed second through the first 18 holes, thanks to the current individual leader, Raquel Prado (-4).

Biola joined CSUSM as the only two teams to place their top three players inside the top 10, individually. Sami Penor led the way for the Eagles with a score of 75 (+3) for a share of fifth place. The junior picked up three birdies and 10 pars, while battling in the third grouping.

Melanie Reyes one-upped Penor in pars obtained, tying for the third-most on day one with 11. The freshman capped off the round with a score of 78 (+6), matching her teammate Brady Turnquist for a share of ninth. Turnquist also turned in a scorecard of 78 but found her success with four birdies, which tied for third-most amongst the field.

The final scorer for BU was the first to tee off amongst the team players. Mary Grace Davidson tallied an 82 (+10) on the day and opened her round with five pars and a birdie through the front nine.

Jessica Cornelius impressed as an individual with precision and accuracy on par threes. The short distance holes played in Cornelius' favor, as she logged the best scores on par threes at -1. The freshman also tacked on four birdies in the round for a 79 (+7) overall score.

Biola will look to make up ground on CSUSM (297) and PLNU (307) on Friday with the final round of the tournament beginning at 8:00 am.
