Biola Blanked in Game 2

Dominican sweeps the day to split the four-game set in San Rafael.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — Tuesday was just not Biola's day offensively as the Eagles were shutout for the third time this season in a 3-0 loss to Dominican.

The Penguins managed to sweep Tuesday's doubleheader to split the four-game set with Biola.

The Eagles had seven hits but could not get anyone across home plate in the second half of play on Tuesday, creating just one run of offense across the 14 innings played so far in March.

Dominican scored once in the first and two more in the fourth inning to get the victory. It's their first shutout win since April of last year. Their two wins today snapped what had been a seven-game losing streak for Dominican.

Allie Beck went 2-for-4 out of the leadoff spot, but no one else had more than one hit in this one for the Eagles. All three Dominican runs in this ballgame were scored with two outs on the board and the Biola pitcher ahead in the count.

The win improves Dominican to 5-12 overall and 2-6 in PacWest Conference play. Biola's tough day stymies what had been a nice little hot streak. The Eagles are now 10-7 overall and 5-3 in conference play.

Biola has nine days of practice to prepare for what will be their toughest test yet when conference play continues on March 10. The Eagles hit the road for a doubleheader at No. 2 Concordia University Irvine (20-0, 8-0 PacWest).
