LAREDO, Texas --- Day one of the Jack Brown Memorial Golf Tournament saw two rounds of action for nine teams. Biola posted a score of 604 (303, 301) to take third with one round left on Tuesday. Sami Penor ended the day at the top of the player's leaderboard, thanks to a -4 round one.

Texas A&M International played host to the early week tournament, bringing in a group of nine teams for three rounds of tough competition. The field includes top-tier programs that are ranked nationally, such as No. 2 Dallas Baptist, No. 9 West Texas A&M and No. 11 St. Mary's. Biola and TAMIU also received votes in the latest WGCA NCAA DII National Poll.

Penor made her mark with nine birdies through two rounds on Monday. The separation came in round one with a score of 68. The four-under performance was four strokes better than anybody else in the field. The senior was excellent on par-fours, posting four birdies on par-fours in the opening round.

On the day, Penor turned in scorecards of 68 and 74 for a total of 142. The two-round total kept Penor in first place among the individuals by two strokes.

Next in line for the Eagles, Melanie Reyes offered 153 (79, 74) strokes on the day. The freshman got comfortable with the course after the first 18 holes, cutting five strokes off her previous round total. Reyes completed the day tied for 16th on the individual leaderboard.

Another freshman in Lauren Lee offered a strong showing with rounds of 78 and 77 on Monday. Lee nabbed 24th, individually, while ranking amongst the top-five in pars hit on the day. Rachel Shaw (81, 76) and Brady Turnquist (78, 87) rounded out the scorers for Biola on day one.

Mary Grace Davidson competed as an individual, ranking tied for 35th on the leaderboard. She posted a score of 160 on the day and went sub-80 in round two.

The Eagles will be back at it on Tuesday to finish off the tournament at 6:00 am (PST) at the Laredo Country Club.
