Onto the Next

Biola started day two of the Concordia Kick-Off classic with a loss to Chico State.

IRVINE, Calif. --- The Biola women's softball (1-1) team couldn't find the same rhythm on Friday as it had in its home-opener win Thursday against Northwest Nazarene. The Eagles opened day two of the Concordia Kick-Off Classic against Chico State (1-0) and couldn't get anything going in the 8-0 five-inning loss.

Hats off to the Wildcats softball team as they haven't stepped onto the field of competition in almost two years. The Wildcats jumped out to the early lead with a run in the bottom of the first. The 1-0 advantage stood pat for Chico State until the third inning, when the game broke open. Through the third, fourth and fifth frames, the home squad on the scoreboard added seven runs to cut the game short at five innings.

Roybal started off strong, recording four strikeouts from the circle. The tide turned in the bottom of the third, as Chico State found its groove at the plate and put together a strong scoring rally.

Chico State continued to hold the Eagles' offense scoreless for the rest of the game, as BU couldn't piece together the hits they needed.

The top of the third saw good action on the base paths for Biola, as sophomore third baseman Kaitlyn Hawkins hit a bullet down the right field line to get the crowd and dugout going. Next up, Loren Meza and Rilee Ruvalcaba laid down back-to-back sacrifice bunts to move Hawkins to third. Unfortunately, the runner in scoring position was left on base without a hit to break the seal.

Biola looks to bounce back as they head into their next game on Friday against #21 Colorado Mesa in the Concordia Kick-Off Classic at Great Park Irvine. For live stats links and updates check athletics.biola.edu.
