IRVINE, Calif. ---Â With the beginning of the 2022 season underway for the Eagles, the PacWest has announced it's women's tennis preseason rankings. With all 15 coaches voting to rank the PacWest women's tennis teams, BU was named a respectable third place in the preseason poll.Â
Biola pulled in 173 points to nab third in Wednesday's vote. With Azusa Pacific winning it's first-ever women's tennis PacWest title in the 2021 season, the Cougars tallied 193 points to land second in the conference poll. Hawaii Pacific was named the team to beat this year with 207 points, coming off a big win against APU in the 2021 West Region Championship.Â
Biola is ready to prove their rightful place amongst the top competition in the PacWest in 2022. The impressive team is fresh off a trip to the 2021 NCAA DII West Region Championships, which marked a first in program history. On the season, the Eagles boasted a 13-8 overall record, including a nine-match winning streak that lasted nearly a month.
An experienced Eagles squad will be looking for major contributions from last year's leaders, Colbeyshae Emery and Mary Brascia. Both star athletes have been ranked nationally by the ITA heading into the 2022 campaign. Emery is ranked the 13th best player in singles play with her doubles partner Brascia ranking at 42nd. The two make up a fierce doubles team and is also ranked 13th in the all of the NCAA Division II.Â
The David Goodman led Eagles squad will see it's first countable action of the 2022 season on the road against Caltech on Friday. Biola will hold its home-opener on Saturday with a bout against Redlands at 1:00 pm.
