Lujan Shines in Narrow Loss

Andrew Lujan tallied a home run in two-straight plate appearances but the Eagles ultimately fell to Cal State LA in game two.

LA MIRADA --- The second half of a Saturday doubleheader went the way of Cal State LA. Biola (2-5) and CSULA (5-5) split the day and split the four-game series with the 8-7 final in game two on Saturday.

Bobby Brown did not miss a beat in between games of the doubleheader. Just like in game one, Brown smacked a double in the first inning from the two-spot in the lineup. Rylan Greenlee matched his teammate with his own double, bringing in the first score for BU.

CSULA was quicker to the trigger in game two, tacking on a pair of scores in the first and second frames. A 4-1 Golden Eagle lead shrunk to 4-2 with the first at bat in the bottom of the second. Lujan took the first pitch he saw and sent it flying over the outfield fence in deep right field.

The visitors responded with a run of their own in the next half inning to bring their lead back to three.

The bottom of the third brought another rally for the Eagles. The offensive surge began with two Eagle batters being hit by a pitch with an error in between to help load the bases. Wyatt Duncan delivered at the plate with a single, bringing in two runs for BU. Fresh off a blast to right, Lujan stepped up next with a pair of runners on base. In back-to-back at bats, Lujan sent one deep for a three-run home run. The three-RBI blast changed the outlook of the game, giving Biola a 7-5 edge.

Jake Anderson entered the game on the mound in the fourth and immediately set the tone. The righty went three-up, three-down in his first inning of work, before collecting a strikeout for each out of the fifth.

Unfortunately, the quiet stretch for the Golden Eagles stopped there. The visitors pounced in the sixth, retaking the lead at 8-7 with three runs on four hits.

The seven-inning affair came to a close without a response from the Eagles, resulting in the 8-7 final score in CSULA's favor.

In the contest, BU's runs matched its hits and runs batted in with seven in each category.

Biola will begin a nine-game road trip on Tuesday with a competition against Cal Poly Pomona at 5:00 pm.
