Game One is Won

The Biola offense came out to play in game one on Saturday, delivering 14 runs in a winning effort.

LA MIRADA --- Game one of Saturday's doubleheader belonged to Biola (2-4). The hosting Eagles piled on 10 runs in the first three innings, before completing the 14-5 victory over Cal State LA (4-5).

After a slow offensive day on Friday, the Eagles reclaimed their dominance at the plate with a big game one. BU posted five frames with multiple runs scored through eight appearances on offense.

10 of the team's 14 runs came in the first three innings of the contest. The BU offense was not messing around, tallying four extra-base hits in the impressive stretch. The big hits took advantage of six walks handed to the Biola batters.

The third inning saw the largest jump for the host squad with four Eagles touching home. For the second time in the series, BU blasted a grand slam, this time at the hands of Matthew Nyce. The sophomore launched a shot over the left field fence for his first hit as an Eagle.

The offensive explosion came to the aid of Gilbert Lopez, who earned the win on the mound. Lopez put up three zeros through those three frames, while collecting four-straight strikeouts to end the first and start the second.

Relief pitching showed up to hold the lead for the Eagles. The seventh, eighth and ninth flew by uneventfully for the CSULA offense. Matthew Watson, Connor Butler and Carson Cody combined for 3.2 innings pitched with just one hit allowed.

Bobby Brown was crucial to the strong start for the Eagles, logging a double in each of his first two at bats. On the day, Brown went 4-6 at the dish with three RBI and two runs scored. Three more doubles came in for BU from Tyler Baca, Taylor Justus and Wyatt Duncan.

Biola is back on Eagles Diamond for game two against CSULA on Saturday afternoon.
