Wasn’t Our Day

The Eagles fell on Friday to CSULA in the second game of a four-game series.

LA MIRADA --- Friday was day two and game two of the baseball series between Biola (1-3) and Cal State LA (4-4). The back half of the contest swung in favor of the visiting Golden Eagles, as BU dropped the game by a 10-2 final score.

The CSULA offense made the difference, outhitting BU, 14-5, on the day. Rallies through the latter portion of the game opened it up for the visitors, as the competition came to a close.

The visitors were the first team to impact the scoreboard, plating a runner in the top of the third. BU starter, Keith Walker, did well to get out of the inning, giving up just one run despite a bases loaded, no out situation.

The Biola scoring came in the third frame, thanks to a big hit from Oscar Serratos. The third baseman launched a no-doubter over the deepest part of the outfield fence, bringing home a pair of runs for the Eagles. The two-run homer was the perfect response, giving the hosting squad a 2-1 advantage.

Solid pitching returned for both teams, as the two defenses posted zeros on the scoreboard in the fourth and fifth innings. Walker led the BU squad on the mound, going five innings as the starting pitcher. The righty was dealing with seven strikeouts and only three hits and two walks allowed.

The relief pitching was not there for the Eagles, as they could not hold onto their edge. The visitors tacked on two runs to retake the lead in the sixth, before piling on six runs between the seventh and eighth frames.

CSULA did well to utilize see-through singles and disciplined at-bats to create rallies on offense. The late surge from the Golden Eagles helped them push past Biola for the 10-2 finish.

Serratos was the bright spot for the BU lineup, tallying three of the team's five hits on Friday. The homer was his third of the season, marking his third-straight game with a hit that left the field.

The Eagles showed their speed on the base paths, nabbing three bags by way of a steal. Serratos, Rylan Greenlee and Tyler White were all credited with nabbing a base.

BU will complete the series against Cal State LA on Saturday with an 11:00 am doubleheader at Eagles Diamond.
