Road Trip Triumph

The Eagles began their Hawaii road trip on Friday with a 4-3 win over Hawaii Hilo.

Box Score OAHU, Hawaii --- Biola women's tennis (3-0) opened up conference play on Friday, beginning its three-match trip in the Hawaiian Islands. To kick things off, the Eagles took on Hawaii Hilo (0-1) and grabbed the 4-3 victory to move to 3-0 on the season.

The Vulcans started their season on Friday, hosting the Biola Eagles at the Hawaii Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park. UHH did well to stay close with BU, after being ranked 10th in the PacWest preseason poll, compared to the Eagles No. 3 ranking.

Doubles play created a 1-0 lead for the visitors on Friday. The midday bout featured doubles wins from Colbeyshae Emery and Mary Brascia and Ines Diaz and Lilly McNeill. Diaz and McNeill took care of business on court No. 3, 6-2, while Emery and Brascia logged a 6-4 victory from the No. 1 spot.

Five-of-six singles matches were straight-set finishes, as the two teams traded points. Brascia made quick work on court two, posting a 6-3, 6-2 triumph. The senior remained undefeated on the young season, turning in her third win this year.

In the No. 1 spot, Emery won both sets, giving the Eagles their third point of the day. The first set was a battle, as the BU star eked out with a 7-5 edge, before finishing the match with a 6-2 rout.

The match-winning point came from the No. 4 spot. Newcomer Alexandria Mann delivered for Biola to move to 3-0 on the season. Mann did well to close out the contest in the second set, notching a 7-5 win to grab the fourth point for BU.

Hawaii Hilo went even with the Eagles in singles play, turning in three wins. Three points made the match close but four from Biola sealed the victory.

Biola will return to the courts on Sunday, taking on Hawaii Pacific at 11:00 am PST.
