LA MIRADA--- The Biola Women's Track and Field team features eight speed and power newcomers which includes seven freshman and one junior transfer.
These eight athletes are ready to make an immediate impact, joining a 2023 roster that is composed of 27 returners.
"This group of speed/power young ladies, in addition to the distance gals, puts our incoming class at 17 athletes," stated head coach Sean Henning. "There are several girls in this crew who will have an immediate impact at the championship level and even more who will be great leaders for this program over the next few years."
Priscilla Jones - Junior, American River College, Sacramento, CA
Personal Bests:100mH-15.05, 400mH-66.37, SP-11.79m
Coach Henning's thoughts: "I have really enjoyed getting to know Priscilla over the past year. She loves the Lord and wants to be at a place that will help her grow spiritually. She has tremendous talent across a number of events and just needs a great team and training plan to push her to the next level. She will bring lots of energy and excitement to our group of heptathletes. I can't wait to see what Priscilla does in a Biola singlet."
Ashley Rodgers - Freshman, Santa Margarita HS, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA
Personal Bests: 100m-12.64, 200m-26.62
Coach Henning's thoughts: "We have been talking with Ashley for a couple of years now. She had a strong junior year and then got injured. Ashley worked hard to bounce back from her injuries and managed to have a solid senior campaign. I'm looking forward to building up her strength in the Fall because I think she could really surprise some people in the 100, 200, and 4x100 relay this Spring."
Jordyn Tipp - Freshman, King's HS, Seattle, WA
Personal Bests: Javelin-81'0", SP-27'9", DT-77'3"
Coach Henning's thoughts: "Jordyn was so excited to be a part of this team, which in turn made me really excited for her to be here! She comes from a smaller Christian school in Washington where she played soccer and track and field. I think she has great potential in all four throws events and will be a great source of energy for our throws group. I look forward to watching her develop here at Biola."
Kathryn Thompson - Freshman, Redlands HS, Redlands, CA
Personal Bests: LJ-17'3.75", TJ-37'8.75", HJ-5'1"
Coach Henning's thoughts: "Katie has a unique athletic background as an elite gymnast, cross country runner, and jumper. She just started hurdling last year, and I think she has the makings of a great heptathlete. She had a lot of success in the jumps as a senior, being one of the top triple jumpers in the southern section, so she understands what it takes to compete at a high level. I think she will be very impactful as a freshman, in particular in the jumps."
Maria Vidal Poy - Freshman, Spain
Personal Bests: 100m-12.53, 200m-25.34, 400m-57.17, LJ-5.57m
Coach Henning's thoughts: "Maria had a great spring season and we are excited to watch her grow as a sprinter and long jumper. She brings great work ethic and high-level experience to the team. She will provide some fire power to our lady sprinters and is a very positive and encouraging person. Maria will be a great influence on the culture of this team over the next few years."
Hannah Sokol - Freshman, Los Alamitos HS, Los Alamitos, CA
Personal Bests: SP-30'11", DT-106'10"
Coach Henning's thoughts: "Hannah had a solid career as a thrower at Los Alamitos and really fits the mission of Biola well. I think she can be a really good discus thrower and a leader in that event group over the next few years. We are continuing to add to the depth of our throws group and Hannah is a great fit for what we want to do with that event area."
Audrey Mousa - Freshman, Worthington Christian HS, Westerville, OH
Personal Bests: 200m-26.21
Coach Henning's thoughts: "Audrey had a really solid sprinting career out in Ohio, in particular in the 200. She definitely came to Biola for the right reasons, and because of that, I think she will be a great fit with our sprints team. She provides immediate depth for us, and I see her being impactful in our team culture as well."
Amaya Heard - Freshman, La Serna HS, Whittier, CA
Personal Bests: SP-30'5", DT-82'8"
Coach Henning's thoughts: "Amaya is a local girl from Whittier and has some good ties to Biola. She comes from a program at La Serna that is led by former Biola track athlete, Joe Orr. I think Amaya is underdeveloped as a thrower and will grow with our weight room program and under our coaching. I definitely see her making an impact for us at the conference level."
In addition to these eight newcomers, nine Eagles will compete in their first track and field season. Maggie Williams, Ellie Stetina, Bethany Mapes, Hailey Wurzbach, Karis Brown, Lolo Landrith, Emma Gutierrez, Amy Payne, and Emily Jensen just concluded their first cross country season with Biola and are looking forward to racing in Spring.
Henning concluded, "The most exciting thing about this group is that all of them felt that Biola was the best fit for them, which means they bought into the mission of our university and track and field program. I'm excited to watch this group do big things this spring."
