Head of the Pack

December 14, 2022

IRVINE, Calif. --- After calculating the scores for each squad through the fall season, the Eagles lead the PacWest in the hunt for the Commissioner's Cup. Three PacWest titles pushed Biola out in front of a tightly contested pack.

Through five sports, Biola boasted 59 points and an average score of 11.80 per sport. The grading is based on the team's final conference standings or the result of the conference tournament.

The men's and women's cross country squads for BU gave the Eagles a huge boost in the standings. Both teams collected PacWest Championships, which were each worth 15 points in the Commissioner's Cups race. The women's squad picked up the crown for the first time in program history while the men scored the title for the third time.

While men's soccer did not have a PacWest Tournament, the Eagles were able to score the most points possible. The BU squad earned the title of co-Champions alongside Dominican, as each team tallied 14 points for their school.

Biola volleyball also notched double-digit points, tying for fourth in the PacWest in 2022. In total, the Eagles nabbed 10 points, and was followed by women's soccer which added five points with an eighth place finish in conference play.

Point Loma, Concordia and Azusa Pacific narrowly trailed Biola through the first checkpoint in the Commissioner's Cup competition. PLNU remained .3 behind and CUI sat .7 behind Biola in their average score per sport.

Winter sports are underway with men's and women's basketball headlining the season for PacWest sports. Including spring, there are 10 sports remaining before the Commissioner's Cup is awarded at the end of the 2022-23 year.
