Eagle Excellence

Biola men’s water polo capped off its regular season on Wednesday, taking down Redlands on the road.

REDLANDS, Calif. --- BU (14-16) polished off its best regular season in program history on Wednesday. The men's water polo team grabbed its 14th win of the season with a 9-7 rout of Redlands (13-13).

The game was quickly in the hands of the visiting Eagles. BU put the pedal to the metal from the start of the contest, collecting a 6-1 lead through 16 minutes of action. Nolan Rapp and Gavin Oliver opened up the game with goals to get the offense going.

The second period was the difference, as Biola held Redlands scoreless through all eight minutes. Strong defense held strong through a pair of Bulldog powerplays to maintain the BU advantage.

During the defensive stand, the Eagle offense stepped up as well. Joshua Halopoff gave Biola a three goal lead with back-to-back scores in the period. Oliver added his second goal on a powerplay, before Luke Franklin cashed in for a 6-1 Biola lead at halftime.

Redlands responded in the third, bringing the game in reach with a 4-1 run. Matthew Rodriguez was the lone goal scorer in the stanza for the Eagles.

Biola made sure to leave no doubt on the contest, heading into the final eight minutes. Oliver tacked on his third goal to regain some momentum and Kenny Wulf put the nail in the coffin with Biola's ninth goal. The Bulldogs rallied for two more in the final three minutes and 30 seconds but BU held on for the 9-7 victory.

Oliver matched his best of the season with three goals on Wednesday. The freshman capped off his first regular season with at least one goal in each of the last seven contests and totaled 28 scores on the year.

Mitchell Carpenter and Joshua Dachenhausen combined for the effort in the goal. The duo netted a total of nine saves, including five from Dachenhausen in the final 12 and a half minutes of the game.

Rapp made his impact on the attack with a goal and two assists. Wednesday was the 16th time this year, he tallied at least three points.

The Eagles will now prepare for the WWPA Championship Tournament when they take on Fresno Pacific in the opening round on Friday, November 18 at 9:00 am.
