Hawks Defend Home

Holy Names defended the Tobin Gymnasium with a 25-23, 13-23, 25-18, 25-21 volleyball win against Biola.

OAKLAND, Calif.--- The Biola University volleyball team fell 25-23, 13-23, 25-18, 25-21 to Holy Names at the Tobin Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

The Eagles dropped to 9-8 overall and 6-4 in the PacWest Conference, while the Hawks improved 8-10 overall and 3-6 in the PacWest. Biola currently sits in fifth place in the league standings behind first place Chaminade, second Fresno Pacific, third Point Loma and fourth Azusa Pacific.

The Hawks successfully defended their home court against the Eagles. HNU pulled ahead with the first-set win (25-23), but Biola quickly came back in the second where the Eagles topped the Hawks by a wide margin of 25-13. Biola had 13 kills in the contest led by Madison Beebe who had six, including the final set point (25-13).

Holy Names continued to nab the third set which gave them momentum heading into the fourth. HNU put down 17 kills in the third set and benefited off of five BU errors in their 25-18 win. 

The Hawks led the majority of the fourth set, scoring four of their night's total of 10 service aces. HNU also had 15 kills in their 25-21 win.

Holy Names won the match, but Biola won the battle at the net where they out-blocked HNU 9-5. Abigail Copeland had the team-high of five blocks, which included three solo and two block assists. Gracie Guy had the next highest count with a solo block and two block assists, followed by Dominique Kirton who totaled three block assists and Anna Aubele, Abby Brewster and Sierra Leopold who each had one block assist in the match. 

Biola continues to play in Northern California tomorrow (Thursday, October 6) against Dominican at 8 p.m. in the Conlan Center.
