Biola Battles

The women’s golf team played two good rounds against a competitive field at the West Regional Preview, ending the day tied for fourth of 16 teams.

DALLAS, Texas--- The Biola University women's golf team played two rounds on Monday at the West Regional Preview. It was a nice sunny day in Dallas where the Eagles were one of 16 teams competing at the Golf Club of Dallas.

Round 1
Biola fared well in the first round, scoring a combined 303 which put them in the top of the pack. Just three teams were ahead of the Eagles including Dallas Baptist University in first (285), West Texas A&M (288), and Oklahoma Christian (300).

Madison Voisard and Rachel Shaw led the Eagles, both carding two-above-par 74. Voisard recorded five birdies in the first round and Shaw saw success on Par-3 holes where she averaged one-under-par. 

Brady Turnquist was close behind, trailing by two strokes (76). Melanie Reyes and Abigale Morris followed carding 79 and 83 respectively.

Emily Cons competed as Biola's individualist where she recorded a 79 for the first round.

Round 2
Biola improved by eight strokes in the second round with a team score of 295. The Eagles were three strokes shy of making a new school record, tying their second best round in program history that happened in 2020 at the Tim Tierney Shootout.

Ahead of the Eagles was Dallas Baptist University in first (575), West Texas A&M in second (582), and Oklahoma Christian rounding up third (588). Cal State East Bay was tied for fourth with Biola (598).

Turnquist and Morris were Biola's headliners in the second round, each improving by six strokes. Turnquist surpassed Voisard and Shaw on the leaderboard with her two-under-par (70) second round. Turnquist nailed the par 3 and par 5 holes, averaging one-under-par and two-under-par respectively. She also sunk in six birdies to become Biola's top-ranking player.

Turnquist is currently tied for 10th (146) and behind her is Voisard tied for 15th (148), Shaw tied for 19th (149), Reyes tied for 42nd (155), and Morris tied for 67th (160).

Cons was tied for 42nd with Reyes as Biola's individual player (155).

The Eagles will play the final round tomorrow morning.
