AIEA, Hawai'i---Â The Biola Women's Golf Team capped their final round of the Southwest Airlines HPU Sharks Shootout at the Pearl Country Club.
The Eagles dropped to sixth place with a second round team score of 305, resulting in a combined tournament score of 608. Cal State San Marcos was the invitational's Champion with an impressive team score of 571. Behind the Cougars was second place Point Loma (591), third place West Texas A&M (597), fourth place Hawai'i Pacific (599) and fifth place Cal State Monterey Bay (605).
Overall, BU (No. 22) fared well in a competitive field that contained eight teams ranked by GolfStat. Biola placed above four ranked teams including: No. 31 Cal State East Bay, No. 31 UT Permian Basin, No. 37 Western Washington, and No. 50 Simon Fraser.
"There was a day when I would have been happy to have our top four players shoot in the 70's," stated head coach Jane Carr. "But we have turned a corner and our competition is getting tougher and tougher. We know we have to be under 300 to win out here and we know it is possible."Â
The tournament's medalist was CSUSM's Breann Horn who carded three-under-par and four-under-par respectively, totaling a final scorecard of 137.
Biola's leading scorer was Brady Turnquist who ended the invite tied for seventh. Turnquist recorded three-above-par and totaled 147 in the two-day tourney.Â
Madison Voisard (tied for 16th) was just behind Turnquist, repeating her first round score of 75.
Rachel Shaw shaved off a stroke from her first round with a second round score of 77. Shaw wound up tied for 30th and Melanie Reyes (T-34) was just one stroke behind her in the second round.
Emily Cons rounded out the group, tied for 66th. Cons improved by three strokes and totaled an overall score of 165 in her first tournament competing as a part of the team lineup.Â
Abigale Morris (Biola's individualist) improved as well. Morris took off seven strokes which landed her tied for 76th. Â
Biola continues their Hawai'i trip with UH Hilo's annual Dennis Rose tournament coming up next. Biola will head on over to the Big Island and begin tournament play on Friday, October 28.Â
Carr concluded, "Our players are not content with how we finished today and we are looking forward to coming back stronger."
