EAGLES REBOUND IN WIN OVER SHARKS

Biola Women’s Basketball pick up a 64-54 win over Hawaii Pacific.

LA MIRADA --- Biola (9-5, 5-2 PacWest) bounced back from a tough loss last Tuesday, as they turned a new page beating Hawaii Pacific (4-10, 1-6 PacWest) Monday evening at Chase Gymnasium.

The BU squad was on a roll from the start, which was the full squad's first game back together. The Eagles took control of the first quarter, outscoring HPU 16-7.

Freshman Amiah Simmons did her job taking advantage of getting the ball up the court to get the first points on the board with a layup. As the team built a rapid nine-point lead, only allowing HPU to seven points in the first 10 minutes.

"We are stronger together. As a team we played with a lot of grit, we committed to our team defense and had good communication," mentioned Simmons.

The Kansas native would finish the day with a total of 23 points. Not only did she lead her team in scoring on the evening, but she was just shy of a double-double with seven rebounds.

Shortly thereafter, the opposing team opened the second quarter scoring four points to try and close the gap with Biola making the score 20-11. BU took advantage of every opportunity scoring a total of 16 points this quarter with 12 of those points being in the paint and five points off turnovers. Biola would average 16 points in each quarter throughout the night, keeping things consistent and effective.

Going into the second half, the competitors didn't stop grinding, chipping away as much as they could. Biola kept putting in the work achieving a 7-0 run, while having a 14-point lead with only three minutes to spare. The Sharks did everything they could to make a comeback scoring a total of 35 points in the third and fourth quarter combined. BU held onto its double-digit lead to finish off the game with a steal from Laila Walker that led to a layup.

Walker was next on the scoring leader board with a total of 10 points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a pair of threes to help lead her team to victory in her first game back.

The Eagles defense was hot on Monday, as the team defended a few of HPU starters to minimal points throughout the game. All but two players in the HPU rotation were held to five points or fewer.

Biola once again won the battle on the boards against Hawaii Pacific as the Eagles had 42 rebounds to HPU's 33. BU had a total of 10 points off the bench, 20 points off of turnovers, 17 fast break points, and 40 points in the paint.

The Eagles look ahead to five more home stand conference matches, including four more in the next five days. Biola hosts Hawaii Hilo on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Chase Gymnasium. For live stats links and updates check athletics.biola.edu.
