LA MIRADA --- The Biola Women's Tennis team fell in a 5-2 decision to NCAA DI Nevada on Friday afternoon, as they opened the 2022 season with an exhibition match on a partly cloudy day. Exhilarating performances came in from all around the women's team, as they looked ready to work and play hard.

"It was so fun to get out there and start playing. I am very impressed with these girls. We got to see where we are succeeding and areas where we need to improve. Ultimately, there is so much more from learning when you go out and compete," said Head Coach David Goodman.

The Eagles fought hard in doubles as Ines Diaz and Lilly McNeill were neck-and-neck  with the Division I Wolf Pack Mathilde Sarcelet and Cristina Moll Alles. The BU duo fell short with the last two sets, finishing this match 6-4 at the No. 3 matchup. 

Colbeyshae Emery and Mary Brascia had a sluggish start facing Milka Genkova and Anastasia Luneva. They didn't give up and continued to chip away against their strong opponents but were too late finishing the set 6-2. Both returners Brooke Fager and Gaby Carvajal lost on court two by 6-0 stretch to Selina Turulija and Mariana Campino. 

The singles competition started with a rapid successful outcome from UNR Mariana Campino at the No.3 spot. The Pack would continue to build their lead following a set win at the No. 6 spot in three sets, putting pressure on BU through two individual matches. 

"Facing a Division I team as good as they are, with a very close third set with a handful of these girls, it is exciting to know this is just the beginning," mentioned Goodman. 

Brooke Fager, the hype queen herself came ready to fight as she took the first singles win for the Eagles. This tight battle between her and UNR senior Cristina Moll Alles came to a close after just two sets in the match. The Washington native stayed collected through this challenging match, finishing both sets 6-4, using the rest of her energy to cheer on her teammates. 

Brascia followed Fager with her own singles victory out of the No. 2 spot in the back-and-forth battle against Nevada's fifth-year Milka Genkova. The BU redshirt junior lost set one 6-4 and took set two 6-3. This had them go into set three where Brascia was not going to let this slip from her, taking set three 7-5. 

That turned all eyes on court No. 4 as the  strong-minded freshman Alexandra Mann battled through two sets, ending in a tie breaker. A 14-12 tiebreaker favored Selina Turulja who completed the match win. Mann started off slow in the first set, losing 6-2, but turned it on as she took the second set 7-5.with There is a lot to look forward to with Mann as she is in her first season with the Eagles. The Pack would go onto win out the day allowing UNR to outlast Biola to finish the exhibition match 5-2victory.  

The Eagles will now prepare for a match on the road at Caltech on Friday, February 4 at 2:00 pm at the Athenaeum Tennis Court. For live stats links and updates check athletics.biola.edu.
