Making a Splash Beyond the Nest

Karnazes continued her golfing career with excellence, winning the Greek Strokeplay Championship and earning a spot in the European Ladies Amateur Championship.

July 19, 2021

ROVERI, Italy --- International golf play is seeing the impact of a Biola Eagle, as Sophia Karnazes competes in the European Ladies Amateur Championship beginning on Wednesday and going through Saturday. The star athlete completed her senior season at Biola in 2021 and graduated with a degree in business administration.

The incredible opportunity was afforded to the standout based on her performance at the Greek Strokeplay Championship. Karnazes took home the crown with a +26 scoreline through four rounds. 310 strokes on the tournament was enough to beat out second place by two total strokes.

Karnazes delivered in the opening and closing rounds of the tourney. To begin play, Karnazes posted a round of 77 to build a five-stroke lead. Day two and three saw a different story, as the San Diego, California native slipped into third position, heading into the final 18 holes.

Karnazes stepped up with her best round of the tournament in the finale, turning in a scorecard of 73 and reclaiming the top spot. The two-over round matched the best 18-hole score for anyone in the tournament.

A big victory in the Greek Strokeplay Tournament made Karnazes eligible for the European Ladies Amatuer Championship in Roveri, Italy. Karnazes will represent Greece in the tournament, as she battles a field of 144 players from this Wednesday July 21 through Saturday July 24.
