ALLENDALE, Mich. --- The Eagles saw one competitor on Friday with Rebeka Preston completing the heptathlon. Preston finished her NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships appearance with three events.

Preston entered Friday, ranking 10th with 2,933 points after strong performances in the shotput and 200 meter sprint. Day two action included the long jump, javelin throw and 800 meter run, as each athlete faced challenging conditions. "It was extremely cold, wet and windy," said head coach Sean Henning. "We performed well given the circumstances."

In the opening event of the day, Preston posted her best effort in her second jump, adding 671 points to her total from Thursday. A 5.40m mark landed the junior in eighth for the long jump. 

The javelin throw came next, as Preston was the tenth participant in the event. The Independence, Oregon native logged her best attempt with her first toss, notching a 26.26m mark to collect 406 points.

Preston was fantastic in her last opportunity on the track, corralling 678 points in the 800 meter race. In the first lap, Preston maintained a steady pace with a 1:13.50 lap, resting comfortably in 12th place. The junior continued to fight in the second and final lap, moving into 10th with a time of 2:31.19. A strong second lap helped Preston overcome two competitors and beat the 11th place finisher by over 11 seconds.

With all seven events at an end, Preston compiled a final score of 4,688 points. The scoring output placed the standout in 10th overall for the heptathlon.

"To come to your first national championship and finish one spot better than you were projected and a second-team all-american is a great accomplishment," added Henning. "Rebeka has so much upside and I know she learned a great deal from this experience. She definitely gave her best, not for herself and her own glorification but for the Lord!"

Emily Alvarez will finish off the NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships for Biola on Saturday with the 400 meter hurdles set for 7:05 pm (EST).
