BU Tees Off Against APU

The Eagles took down No.8 APU 13-11 with an impressive day at the plate.

AZUSA, Calif. --- Biola continues to show bright spots as they took down the eighth ranked team in the country today. The Eagles will face off against the Cougars for three additional contests this series. Kindreich gave BU a solid start while the hitters were hot at the plate.

Both teams traded scoreless frames in the first and second innings. The Eagles struck first by bringing home two runs in the third on a RobertAnthoony Cruz two-run homer and an additional run in the fourth on a Connor Kostecka single that scored Jackson Collins

Larson Kindreich continued to build off his last outing and gave BU seven innings while surrendering five runs. The lefty gave BU four scoreless innings before surrendering his first runs of the game. Kindreich was tagged for two runs in the fifth on a Tovalin homerun and two additional runs in the sixth on another two-run homer to give APU the 4-2 advantage.

While big innings have worked against the Eagles this season, today the big inning worked in BU's favor. The Eagles were responsible for putting up a six-run seventh inning to give them a 9-4 lead.

Biola loaded the bases on a Johnny Sage single and walks issued to Cruz and Jacob Portaro. An additional walk to Brandoon Cody brought home the first run for BU in the inning to tie the game with the bases still loaded and only one down.

Following a pitching change, APU continued to struggle as Collins was hit by a pitch to plate another run for the Eagles giving them the 5-4 lead. Ben Smith advanced all the runners with a sac fly while Brenden Bell brought them all across to score on a three-run homerun giving BU a 9-4 lead.

The Cougars added a run in the seventh to come within four runs of the Eagles. Biola continued to tee off of Cougar pitching in the eighth inning as Portaro doubled to left center and Collins launched the fourth two-run homerun of the contest for an 11-5 lead.

APU got going in the bottom of the eight as they plated three runs in the inning against Jared Kaprutasky. The Cougars did everything they could to make a comeback including back-to-back-to-back jacks in the bottom of the ninth to come within two runs of Biola.

It was Tyler Mead out of the bullpen to shut the door on the Cougars and earn the save. Mead entered in the bottom of the ninth with no outs and struck out the first batter he faced.
