Eagles Land in Fourth

The PacWest Women’s Tennis Tournament came to a close on Saturday, as the Eagles fell to No. 18 CUI to finish in fourth.

SURPRISE, Ariz. --- The Biola women's tennis team placed fourth in the PacWest Tournament on Saturday. BU took on 18th-ranked and second-seeded Concordia but was unable to overcome the Eagles.

Biola opened the PacWest Tournament with a quarterfinals victory over Point Loma for their first conference tournament win in the PacWest. In the semifinals, the Eagles were defeated by PacWest Champions Azusa Pacific. On Saturday, BU entered the consolation bracket and were outdueled by CUI, 4-1.

Colbeyshae Emery and Mary Brascia, the 18th-ranked doubles team in NCAA Division II, were well on their way to a set win in doubles play against Concordia. The duo opened up a 5-4 edge, looking for their 11th win this season.

Courts No. 2 and No. 3 held different outcomes, as Concordia posted two wins for the doubles point before BU could wrap up a victory in the first flight.

Three BU Eagles found success early in singles play. Emery led things off with a 6-3 opening set in the No. 1 spot. Ines Diaz and Brascia offered even better score lines with mirroring 6-2 sets on courts No. 5 and No. 4, respectively.

Emery came out victorious in her matchup at the No. 1 spot, completing the win with a 7-5 second set. The win nullified the CUI sweep and moved her season record to 14-3.

CUI finished the match off with three solo wins to pick up the 4-1 win in the morning match.

With Saturday's match, BU's overall record moved to 13-7.
