WAIKOLOA, Hawaii --- In their third PacWest Conference Championship appearance, Biola Golf finished in third place as a team while freshman Brady Turnquist finished inside the top-5. With the 2020 PacWest Championships not being played due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the third-place finish gives BU three-consecutive top-3 finishes in each of their appearances. The Eagles placed second in 2019 and third in 2018. 

With the final round complete, Biola (313-312-314-939) held onto its third place finish, showing consistency by sitting third after each day of competition. Point Loma (307-294-303-904) held on to become PacWest Champions for the first time in program history, while 2019 champions Academy of Art (316-307-302-925) secured second place. 

While the results indicate a top-three finish, BU was capable of so much more than the scorecards reflected. "It's certainly disappointing to travel this far and to be on a conference championship stage and not perform as well as I know we are capable of performing," said Head Coach Jane Carr.

"We have beaten Academy of Art both times we have played in tournaments against them this spring. After the first six holes we were tied with ART U, but they continued to pull away and on the back nine we had some rough holes."

Brady Turnquist continued to shine for the Eagles as she finished round three carding a score of 77. Turnquist (74-73-77-224) finished the tournament tied for fifth place with PLNU's Alli Kim. 

After shooting six-over par in the front-nine, Turnquist was able to impress in the back, shooting just one over par in the final nine holes. Turnquist shot nine holes at par in round three while sinking a birdie on the 12th hole. 

One of the more impressive moments of the day for Turnquist was her ability to bounce back and save a bogey after an errant tee shot on the seventh hole. After sinking the putt, Turnquist looked to Carr and said "Every putt counts Coach, even if it's for bogey."

"I knew she would fight back on the back nine and put herself in position for a top-10," said Carr. 

Down the stretch it was hot and mentally draining. Although Turnquist hit the final three holes in regulation, she left herself three to four foot putts for par. "Those aren't easy putts after 51 holes of golf. She maintained her focus and drained each one," said Carr. 

A top-five finish for a freshman at a conference championship is commendable.  "She sets goals for herself and goes after them.  It was a joy watching her win a golf tournament this season and get her top-five finish at conference."

Sami Penor (79-77-74-230) just missed placing in the top-10 as the junior finished in 11th-place after carding her best round of the tournament with a 74. Penor led the Eagles and had the third-best overall round on Wednesday, sinking 12 pars and adding a birdie on the 17th hole. 

"Brady Turnquist and Sami Penor continue to be anchors for this team," said Carr. 

Jules Loibl (79-80-83-242) started her day with a birdie on the opening hole and finished the tournament tied for 17th. The super senior had a sandy seventh hole but was able to sink a clutch putt to save par. 

Rachel Reynolds (81-82-80-243) and Sophia Karnazes (84-86-83-253) both shot their best rounds of the tournament as they improved their scores from round two by two and three strokes respectively to round out the team score for BU. 

The Eagles eagerly await the NCAA selection which takes place April 26. If selected, Biola will head to the NCAA Division II West Regional Championships in Denton, Texas beginning on May 3.
