LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Freshman
Chase Williams was named PacWest Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week as announced Tuesday afternoon. Williams
headlined BU Men's Track & Field performances this past week at the Team for Titus Invite.
Williams ran the first leg of the 4x100 relay for BU, he was followed by Noah Strenn, Worthy Gutierrez and
Jahquez Durham as they secured a first place victory with a time of 42:36. The combined effort is the fastest mark in Head Coach
Sean Henning's time at BU. Even more impressive, the mark was only .12 seconds shy of the school record of 42.24 (1979). With three meets left before conference championships, we can expect to see Williams and Co. inch closer and perhaps even break the 1979 record before the season ends.
Williams also notched a top two finish in the 100m prelims, just getting edged out by APU's Daniel Bessolo. In the finals, Williams chasedndown Bessolo and won the final heat with a time of 10.73. The freshman shaved off .22 seconds off his mark from the Fresno Pacific Invite. Williams added another podium finish securing third place in the 200m (22.23) crossing the finish line just after teammate Noah Strenn.
Head Coach Sean Henning is proud of the effort he has seen from Williams so far this season. "He competes well and shows amazing focus and determination, especially for a freshman," said Henning. "He continues to get better each week."
Chase Williams and BU Track & Field are back in action April 3 at the APU Invitational. The meet is one of three straight meets at the Cougar Athletic Stadium, competing on a familiar track could potentially benefit Williams and the Eagles as they chase
