The Chase Continues

Biola finishes second as a team at CLU Regals Invitational.

March 17, 2021

MOORPARK, Calif. --- With day two of the Cal Lutheran Regals Invitational complete, Biola Golf (322, 316, 638) brings home their fourth second-place finish of the season behind Redlands University (318, 301, 619) who is currently ranked No.1 in NCAA Division III.

The Eagles placed two in the top-ten as Rachel Reynolds (79, 75, 154) and Sami Penor (78, 76, 155) tied for third place on the player leader board. Reynolds continues to have an incredible spring as the senior continues to help set the tone for BU Golf. Shooting three-over par on day two Reynolds sunk three birdies and completed nine holes at par.

"Rachel is definitely showing herself as the player I always knew she would be," said Head Coach Jane Carr. "She is a mature player who has become a fierce competitor."

Penor also continues to be a force for Coach Carr as she finishes in the top four for the third consecutive tournament. Penor finished fourth in the Bay Area Invitational and third in the Pioneer Shootout and CLU Regals Invitational.

Competing as an individual, Sophia Karnazes (77, 80, 157) finished in sixth place, closely followed by freshman Mary Grace Davidson (79, 83, 162).

Coach Carr wanted to get Karnazes back on track with a little less pressure. "Putting her in the individual spot has given her a chance to regain her confidence," said Coach Carr. "I couldn't be prouder of Sophia's bounce back after last tournament's struggles."

Brady Turnquist (86, 83, 169) and Jules Loibl (88, 82, 170) continued to improve from their day one scores. On a course that already plays tough, day one featured rain on the front 9 and strong winds on the back 9 posing quite the challenge for BU. With better playing conditions, Turnquist and Loibl both improved their scores on day two.

The Eagles are back in action on Friday, April 2 as they head to Goodyear, Arizona for the Western New Mexico Tournament. For updates check athletics.biola.edu.
