IRVINE, Calif. --- Men's Soccer Lawerence Kwazema earns PacWest Player of the Week honors for March 8-14 after a fantastic performance in BU's 6-1 win against Bethesda.
Kwazema led Biola Men's Soccer team to its first win of the season with a dominant performance as he finished the match with a hat trick and an assist. Kwazema became only the second player since BU transitioned to NCAA Division II to accomplish the feat, leading Head Coach Torrey Stricklin to his first Biola win and now his first BU player selected for conference honors.
A natural center back, Kwazema got his first shot at being on the attack and it paid dividends for Stricklin and his team.
Stricklin and his staff have noticed certain things with Kwazema and his versatility at training that led to the decision to put him on the attack. "We have struggled to score this spring so we decided to change things up and put him up top," said Stricklin.
Kwazema was sure to credit his teammates for motivating him to accomplish the feat.
"I saw the effort from our guys, everyone was hungry to win and that's the type of mentality we've been talking about throughout practice," said Kwazema. "We want to win. We battled and we fought for each other, It was amazing!"
Throughout the night, Kwazema's teammates wouldn't let him settle for just one goal. Following his first goal, their playful jarring continued throughout halftime as his teammates told him his goal was a scramble goal and nothing special.
Kwzemas response to his teammates motivating jarring, "Okay, I'll give you a good goal." The junior would find the net two more times in the match as he kept defenders on their heels unable to find a solution for stopping the Nigeria native.
Stricklin and the Eagles look to match tonight's efforts as they close out the season and PacWest play in Irvine as they take on Concordia. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. Live stats and video can be found at cuieagles.com.
