SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- There was no lack of exciting action as Biola and Point Loma battled for the top seed at day two of the Biola Eagle Invitational. The Eagles' (305-315-620) young group delivered a strong finish as they wrapped up just one stroke behind Point Loma, securing second place as a team and finishing with two individual medalists. 

Head Coach Jane Carr was very pleased with how her young team performed in their first tournament of the year. "I am very proud of our players and especially the freshmen who really stepped up. We have had to shuffle our roster this spring and rely heavily on our freshmen. They have exceeded my expectations," said Coach Carr. 

Brady Turnquist (71-77-148) continued to shine, her performance on the back nine featured eight holes at par and one birdie as she won the individual title in her first collegiate tournament.

Turnquist had high expectations for herself in her first collegiate tournament. She is no stranger to the Grand Golf Club as she has golfed the course since she was 10 years old. Outside of the par-five, 470-yard seventh hole, Turnquist turned in an incredible scorecard for her first collegiate tournament. 

After seeing what her team is capable of in their first tournament of the year, the Biola freshman has high expectations for her team this season. "Every tournament our goal is to win, the biggest thing is for us to battle on the golf course," said Turnquist. 

Coach Carr shared her thoughts on Turnquist's performance, "It is tough to win a tournament, but to do so as a freshman is really special. Brady is such a fierce competitor and is going to be a force to contend with over the next four years."

Biola's best score of the day came from Sophia Karnazes (76-76-152) as she matched her round one score. Karnazes birdied on the 492-yard third hole and followed that up with four-straight holes at par. Karnazes' consistency on the course secured her a third-place finish, ending the invite just three strokes shy of a second-place finish.

Coach Carr has been impressed with Karnazes' off season dedication, "Sophia has worked harder than on her game over the past 11 months than anyone I know and it shows."

Mary Grace Davidson (79-80-159) remained in the top-15 after steadily completing the front nine with a birdie on the par-4 10th hole. She finished the day with a bogey to end the tournament as Biola's third-best finisher (14th-place). 

Davidson was joined in the top-20 by Sami Penor (79-82-159) (T-17th place) and Rachel Reynolds (80-82-162) (T-20th place). Competing as an individual, Jessica Cornelius (88-84-172) joined her teammates in the top-30 (T29th place) while also appearing in her first college tournament.

The Eagle Invitational at the Grand was the first action for Biola Women's Golf since COVID-19 prematurely ended their 2020 season. The Eagles return to action in the Bay Area at the Holy Names Tournament on Feb. 22 & 23.
