LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola's Katelyn Penner and Alex Wright bring home Women's Soccer and Men's Basketball PacWest Conference Southern California Player of the Week honors respectively. 

Biola Women's Soccer junior, Katelyn Penner, looks to earn All-PacWest honors for the third consecutive year. Her efforts are there, Penner led the Eagles as she scored two goals in their 3-1 victory against Concordia Irvine this week as they improved to 1-1 this season in PacWest competition. 
 
Penner tallied her first goal of the season to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the 36th minute of the match. Still looking for another scoring opportunity, Penner took advantage of a loose ball in the penalty box as she scored her second goal on the night giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead. 

A spectacular effort saw Penner secure two scores on four shot attempts, leading the conference that category for the first time this season. Coach Erin Brunelle could not have been more pleased with Penner's performance. "Katelyn continues to play a vital role for us in the midfield, taking deep care of her responsibilities on both sides of the ball." 

Penner played a key role in disrupting possession through the midfield and helping to close down scoring threats. "She punishes our team in these ways in practice on a daily basis, so it's a thrill and certainly no surprise to see her execute so well in games," said Coach Erin Brunelle.

In two contests with Azusa Pacific this past weekend, Biola Men's Basketball claimed two victories from the Cougars, improving to 5-1 this season in PacWest competition. Their efforts were led by junior Alex Wright who takes home the PacWest honor for the second time this season. 

Wright, who last season led the conference with 35.6 minutes per game, played the entirety of both contests against the Cougars. In 80 minutes of playing time, Wright helped the Eagles to victory with 37 points, 16 rebounds and 7 assists this weekend. 

"Alex has played very well this season," said Head Coach Dr. Dave Holmquist. "Whether scoring, rebounding, or defending, he has greatly contributed to our team success. In the two-game series against Azusa he once again played excellent basketball. He continues to get better each week."

In his second game on Saturday night, Wright's efforts were phenomenal as the junior earned his fourth double double of the season and his third against the Cougars. With two minutes remaining in a close game, Wright contributed to the Eagles victory as they closed out the contest with six consecutive points. 

Wright and the Eagles are back in action this weekend as they take on Point Loma for the first time this season in the PacWest Conference SoCal pod. The Eagles will host game one Friday evening at Chase Gym before heading down to Point Loma for Saturday's contest.
