Rising Above

A 33-0 run for the Eagles defined a one-sided victory on Saturday afternoon.

LA MIRADA --- The Eagles rose above the competition on Saturday, securing a dominant 89-44 win over the visiting Holy Names Hawks (0-9, 0-2 PacWest). There was not much drama in the contest, as Biola (6-2, 2-0 PacWest) took control early and never slowed down.

Separation began halfway through the first quarter. One point was the difference between the two teams with five minutes elapsed in the game, before the monumental surge for BU.

For over eight minutes of game action, the BU defense held the Hawks scoreless to turn in a 33-0 rally. Between the 5:06 mark in the first quarter and the 6:52 mark in the second quarter,
HNU struggled with the BU press defense. The visitors were 0-8 shooting the ball and gave up eight turnovers in the stretch.

On the flip side, the Biola offense went 12-17 from the field and 7-9 from beyond the arc to pile on 33 unanswered points. The hosting Eagles displayed their passing prowess to dice up the 2-3 zone that they faced. Amiah Simmons was the lead scorer in the long run, contributing 13 points in the eight-minute span.

Biola was constantly finding the open teammate on offense with 27 assists as a team on Saturday. Precise passing helped the Eagles to good looks from three-point land for a 38.9 team percentage. 14 total long balls in the win marked the most this season for BU.

"It was a total team effort today," said Stephanie Lee. "We were moving the ball really well and played together."

BU only added to its lead with advantages in the third and fourth stanzas. Through the final 20 minutes of action, Biola built up its lead by 17 points. Ultimately, the Eagles would cruise to the 89-44 finish, marking its largest margin of victory since a 49-point win over Holy Names in the 2019-20 campaign.

Lee and Simmons feasted on offense, compiling 20 points apiece in the win. The high scoring output is nothing new for either player, as Simmons corralled her fifth-straight 20-point effort.

Lee led the charge from deep, posting four treys on the way to her 20 point total. The junior was excellent in all facets of the game, pacing the team in assists with six, while grabbing four rebounds and a team-high four steals.

HNU turnovers consistently led straight into BU offense with the Eagles collecting 31 points off of turnovers. Autumn Hopson was a part of that effort, offering her first double-digit outing for Biola with 10 points.

Biola will look to remain perfect in conference play next Saturday in a road matchup against Azusa Pacific at 2:15 pm.
