LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- Biola Swim & Dive continued its late-autumn push for top times at the La Verne Collegiate Winter Invite Saturday night. 

For the first time this season a Biola Eagle earned a NCAA Division II national qualifying time as Grace Kling made a provisional time in the 100-breaststroke (1:04.07). Kling was the runner up in the 'A' final to Simon Fraser's Isabelle Roth.

Kling highlighted a night of finals that saw 15 individual top-10 swims, with Biola recording at least one top-10 time in all but one event.

The latter stages of the individual swims were where Biola was at its best, including the final individual event of the night where Biola landed one in the top-3 in both the men and women's 100-backstroke. Ryan Monrean finished third in the men's final with a :52.96, while Kolya Vos was third in the women's event with :57.31.

Just before that Jacob Haaksma continued his fabulous freshman campaign with a third-place effort in the 100-breaststroke (:57.50). That was the most packed final of the night for this Eagles team as Haaksma was joined by Noah Benson (6th - :58.83) and Nathan Schwantes (8th - 1:01.55).

The men had two other top-10 placers in all other finals swam on Saturday night. Patrick Waggoner led the effort in the 400-IM as his 4:17.06 was good enough for sixth. Donatus Onu snuck inside the top-10 in 10th with a 4:14.94.

Dylan Pon was the lead man for BU in the 100-butterfly. The third-year Eagle went :52.32 to finish sixth. He was immediately followed by Tanner Smith, who placed seventh with his :52.57. That was a wild event as Simon Fraser swimmers took each of the top-4 spots. In the women's 100-fly, Morgan Kampfer worked into the top-10 by placing 10th with a :58.13.

Kampfer was a part of an alliterative relay team for Biola that performed well early on. Kling, Kalyn Chang, Kampfer and Kolya Vos combined to go 1:47.57 in the 200-medley relay to finish fifth.

Biola's men gave the Eagles a pair of top-5 finishes in that relay as James Gamette, Dylan Pon, Haaksma and Smith went 1:35.63 to finish fourth.

Keeping with the K names, Kately Harper had a strong showing in her 400-IM, winning the 'B' finals with a 4:40.74. Kasidee Pascoe was another to take note of as Biola's top finisher in the women's 200-freestyle, placing 11th with a 1:56.54.

The men's 200-freestyle was another event that had two Eagles in the top-10, and it was another event where BU took the top spot in the first consolation final. Westin Dawe finished seventh with a 1:44.91, while Gabe Weber won ninth place with a 1:44.03.

The night came to a close with the 800-freestyle relay. Biola had three teams inside the top-6 as the men's 'A' and 'B' teams showed out. The 'A' side finished third as Smith, Waggoner, Weber and Haaksma formed a formidable group and put up a 6:58.50. The 'B' side was not too far behind them, placing sixth.

The women's group split the difference with a fourth-place mark of 7:49.98.

Competition wraps up from East LA College with a rare Sunday sighting of a Biola Athletic team. The Eagles will follow the same schedule with a 10 a.m. prelim start and 5 p.m. finals. The final day of the meet will feature a live stream at https://www.sciacnetwork.com/ulv/.
