IRVINE, Calif. --- The BU men's soccer squad made history in 2021, earning its first appearance in the NCAA DII National Tournament. The distinguished squad was led by a group of eight All-PacWest award-winners, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Biola took half of the individual accolades handed out by the PacWest. Izaac Zausch, Theo Le Calve and Adam Jones all nabbed their first PacWest postseason honor with an individual award on Wednesday.

Zausch was tabbed as the 2021 PacWest Defender of the Year. The Liberty Hill, Texas native was dominant as a BU center back, helping the team to five shutouts in 2021. The BU defense relied on Zausch's presence on the field, as he started all 17 matches and recorded 1,541 minutes on the pitch.

In addition, Zausch made the All-PacWest First Team in the Wednesday announcement. The defender impacted the offense, utilizing his 6-2 frame to tally three goals from headers. Zausch also added an assist in 2021, compiling seven total points.

PacWest Newcomer of the Year was given to Le Calve in his first season at Biola. The Tulsa University transfer shined in a Biola uniform, displaying his prowess around the ball in the midfield.

Le Calve was named First Team All-PacWest, thanks to his team-best six goals. The left-footed midfielder played a crucial role in the BU attack, logging three assists and one game-winner, in addition to the six tallies. The redshirt junior was a set piece master with over half his goals coming off of free kicks or penalty kicks.

Jones offered a midseason spark for Biola, leading to a PacWest Freshman of the Year award. The young talent provided five goals in a six-match stretch in his first full season in La Mirada. A burst in production led to a PacWest Player of the Week award for Jones.

The forward was also a Third Team All-PacWest selection. Jones notched his first collegiate score in a 4-0 win against Academy of Art on August 30. In the contest, Jones tallied two goals on three shots. 16 games played and five starts turned into five goals, two game-winners and three assists for 13 points in 2021.

The third and final First Team All-PacWest selection for the Eagles was Lawrence Kwazema, who notched his second All-PacWest recognition in as many years at Biola. The Owerri, Nigeria native was an anchor on the BU backline, logging 16 starts and 1,375 minutes played. Kwazema and Zausch made an incredible tandem, helping the defense to five shutouts and only 67 shots on-goal.

Kwazema provided a big arm for BU throw-ins this season, creating opportunities in the attacking third. Those tosses led to three assists for the senior.

BU goalkeeper JD Gunn was a Second Team All-PacWest selection on Wednesday. Gunn earned the second-most votes amongst keepers within the PacWest conference, following an 8-4 season in goal.

The redshirt sophomore recorded 1,161 minutes played through 12 starts in 2021. Gunn tallied three shutouts and 34 saves, while posting a 1.32 goals against average on the way to his second PacWest postseason honor.

Aidan Hill also picked up his second All-PacWest honor, being named Third Team All-PacWest. The redshirt junior started in each of the final 12 matches for BU, starring in the midfield. Hill posted four shots on-goal in 2021 and converted three of those into goals, while also adding three assists.

Malik Shaheed shored up the defense on the wing with a Third Team All-PacWest recognition. Shaheed played an important role in his first full season at BU, appearing in 14 matches and earning 13 starts. The senior collected two goals on the season, including an absolute beauty of a game-winner against Dominican on November 6.

Daniel Simonis finished off the award-winners for Biola, nabbing a Third Team All-PacWest selection as a forward. After transferring from Cal State LA, Simonis made an immediate impact for the Eagles, scoring a game-winning goal in his debut. On the year, the senior landed four goals and three assists to bolster the BU attack.

The BU stars helped the team to an 11-6-0 overall record in 2021 and gave the program its first NCAA postseason berth. The opening round begins on Friday, as the Eagles take on Cal Poly Pomona at 11:00 am PST at Midwestern State.
