SOUTH JORDAN, Utah --- After the first 18 holes of the Westminster Wasatch Invite, Biola Golf sits atop the team leader board with Brady Turnquist and Melanie Reyes giving the Eagles a first and second place finish on the individual leader board in a pool of 76 golfers. 

After playing six holes in the opening round, the Eagles endured a one-and-a-half-hour weather delay as temperatures dropped below 52 degrees and showers of rain covered the course. The stoppage of play didn't seem to impact Biola's scoring in round one as the Eagles finished in first place as a team and hold the top two positions on the individual leader board. 

"I couldn't be prouder of this team today," said Head Coach Jane Carr. " The conditions were some the toughest I've seen, requiring some of the strongest mental agility. Our tam stayed focused and gor the job done today."  

On the front-nine, Brady Turnquist shot two below par while sinking birdies on the 520 yard opening hole as well as on the 470 yard fifth hole, the two longest drives on the front-nine. 

Turnquist continued to show her competitive edge on the course and went on to sink two more birdies in the opening round.

"She has nerves of steel," commented Carr. Turnquist carded a score of 69, a collegiate best round, and will aim to stay on top of the leader board during the second round

After an impressive collegiate debut, Melanie Reyes sits tied for second place with Metro State's Antonella Blanco. Reyes sank five birdies in the opening round and was even after the first nine holes.

"She's a birdie machine out there!" said Carr. Reyes went onto finish the day one over par, carding a score of 73 and perhaps even more impressive, she sank a 51 foot put on the third hole. 

With two players on top of the leader board, Biola received a top-25 performance from veteran Sami Penor. Penor carded a score of 80 in the opening round while sinking a birdie on the first and final hole of the day. 

Lauren Lee and Rachel Shaw rounded out the team scores for Biola, carding rounds of 82 and 86 respectively. 

Competing as an individual for Biola, Mary Grace Davidson carded a score of 86 after round one. Davidson logged seven birdies in the opening round while completing eight holes at par. 

After a strong outing in the first round, Biola will look to expand its team lead as the Eagles prepare for round two of the  Westminster Wasatch Invite on Saturday morning. For live scoring, check athletics.biola.edu
