Welcome to the Block Party

The Eagles notched a season-high 13 blocks on Wednesday, taking down Hawaii Pacific in four sets.

LA MIRADA --- The middle of the Biola lineup was busy on Wednesday night, leading Biola (13-7, 9-3 PW) to a 3-1 victory (25-10, 24-26, 25-17, 25-14) over the visiting Hawaii Pacific Sharks (4-16, 3-9 PW). The win extended the team's four-match winning streak and put head coach Aaron Seltzer within two wins of 500 victories at the helm at Biola.

Three Eagles recorded five total blocks in the victory, as the Sharks totaled 27 attack errors. BU was not letting the visitors have any good looks around the net. Middle blockers Dani Bryant and Abigail Copeland headed the movement with Vanessa Garcia and Abby Brewster stepping up as well.

Copeland starred for BU in the opening set. The junior middle blocker stuffed the HPU attack, compiling four blocks in the first set and five on the day. Copeland also added to the BU offense with nine kills, including three in the first set.

BU took care of business in the first set, utilizing a nine-point run to open up a 16-3 lead. Sami Hover served through the strong run, as the team coasted to a 25-10 victory in set number one.

After a back-and-forth second set that ended in HPU's favor, Biola returned to form and notched back-to-back set victories by at least eight points to secure the triumph.

Garcia instigated the offense for BU, dishing out 39 assists on the night. The BU setter spread the ball around, helping six Eagles tally at least five kills. Garcia's impact was felt across the floor on Wednesday, as the graduate student added four kills, three solo blocks and four total blocks.

The leading attacker on Wednesday was Madison Beebe with her 15th double-digit kill match of the season. The righty outside-hitter was taking huge swings to pile up 14 kills on the night with a .419 hitting percentage.

Bryant logged the best hitting percentage for the Eagles, recording eight kills with no errors for a .571 hitting percentage. The middle blocker tacked on five blocks in her impressive performance. "I couldn't have done it without my teammates," said Bryant.

Any ball that made its way through the initial line of defense was swept up by Hover, who nabbed 24 digs. The BU libero surpassed 20 digs for the 12th time this year, while rating third in the PacWest with 450 digs on the season.

Biola also matched its season-high for aces with 12 as a team on Wednesday. Brie Nishimura led the way with three, while four players served up multiple aces in the victory.

Biola will continue its eight-match homestand on Friday with a contest against Hawaii Hilo at 5:00 pm.
