Signing Announcement for Mackenzie Johnson

Excited To Be Challenged

Swimmer Mackenzie Johnson looks forward to joining a collegiate environment that will bring the best out of her.

April 23, 2020

PORT ANGELES, Wash. --- Swimmer Mackenzie Johnson was part of a swim team at Port Angeles High School that maintained a high level of success during her four years on the team. And she'll look to contribute to a similar level of consistency at Biola as Women's Swim & Dive looks to build on a third-place finish at the PCSC Championships this past year.

Johnson had outstanding achievements in the pool while swimming the freestyle and backstroke. She was named first team all-league all four years of high school and was named team and Olympic Peninsula MVP as a freshman. Johnson also has her name on  school records in the 100 back, 200 Medley Relay and 200 Free Relay while helping the Roughriders finish in Washington's top-eight at the state meet for the eighth year in a row this past November.

Johnson earned Peninsula Daily News Athlete of the Week honors as a result of her performance at that meet, which included qualification in the final heats for the 100 back and 100 free. And she'll come to Biola with a drive to improve as the response to COVID-19 delayed her goal of swimming the 100 back in under a minute.

In the classroom, Johnson received honor roll recognition all 4 years of high school and participated in the DECA leadership program, which equips emerging leaders with the skills they need to be successful entrepreneurs. She will major in business administration at she enters Biola with the hope of being a corporate event planner and is looking forward to a college experience that will support her personal development:

"I chose Biola because I was looking for a Christian education where I could grow in and my faith as well as being academically challenged," said Johnson. "I also wanted to be on a swim team that is competitive in its conference, so Biola fits everything I looked for in college and I couldn't be more excited to attend next year!"

Mackenzie Johnson will join her new teammates in the coming fall semester as Swim & Dive prepares for the start of its 2020-21 season in October. More information on the incoming 2020-21 class that will join her at Biola can be found on the Committed Athletes page.
