LA MIRADA, Calif. --- While it may not have reached a full conclusion, the 2019-20 Biola Women's Golf will most certainly be one to remember. It's already a season scribbled all over the program record book, thanks to the dedication and tenacity of each of its members. 

"Our players have dug deep and done what it takes to move up leaderboards this season," said Head Coach Jane Carr. "They never give up, they never look back and you can never count them out."

That tenacity resulted in a new program record for single-season scoring average at 307.91. That's nearly a two-stroke improvement over the previous record of 309.40, set just last season. 

To manage that sparkling scoring average, Carr's team recorded two sub-300 rounds, which doubled the total number of such rounds in the history of the program. That's two sub-300 rounds between 2007-Spring 2019 and then two more just this season.

The low rounds and the memorable charge up the leaderboard on the final day at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout stand out to coach Carr as the team's highlights for this year. 

The Shootout was the final completed tournament of 2019-20 and provided a memorable exclamation point to close out the season. Strong winds on day one put Biola behind the eight-ball with a round 13 strokes higher than any other in 2019-20 (327). 

The team's top-4 shaved 32 total strokes on day two, posting the second-best team score in program history with a 295. The dramatic shift allowed the Eagles to move SEVEN spots up the leaderboard and finish the tournament in fourth place and in front of regional rival Sonoma State.

"I have always respected Sonoma State and in all my years coaching we have not come close to them," said Carr. "I feel like we started learning how good we could be."

The core of the team came from Jules Loibl, Sami Penor, Marcel Manalo and Alexis Gopfert. Those four played all 11 tournament rounds for Biola in 2019-20 and three of them had at least one top-10 finish.

Penor led the team with a scoring average of 76.00. She set the new program record for single-season average. Loibl, her senior teammate, maintained the school's career scoring record among players with 35+ rounds. She closes out her career with a 77.53 mark.

"I had a blast with these ladies, like always," said Loibl. "I am thankful for my time at BU."

Loibl recorded three top-10 finishes this season and had the team's best individual finish when she placed third at the PLNU Sea Lion Invite. Loibl became the first Biola Women's Golf student-athlete to record double-digit top-10 finishes over her career (11).

Penor could find herself with similar career numbers when she's all said and done. Through the first two years of her collegiate career she's got seven top-10 finishes (4 in 19-20) and a scoring average of 77.2 through 31 rounds. 

Marcel Manalo had the third-best scoring average on the team this season with a 77.82. The junior had one top-10 finish, which was powered by her shooting the lowest individual round of the 2019-20.

Manalo shot a 69 in the third round of the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate to complete a three-round total of 225 (80-76-79) to tie for 10th in the field of 55 golfers.

The Eagles were neck-and-neck with Academy of Art as the top two teams in the PacWest Conference all season. Unfortunately, the two sides didn't get the chance to go head-to-head at the PacWest Championship due to the COVID-19 cancellation.

Good new for Head Coach Jane Carr is that most of her core group returns for what should be an exciting 2020-21 season.
