PLEASANTON, Calif. --- Rachel Shaw had a fulfilling experience in so many dimensions of her life as a high school student. 

Shaw developed strong ties to her high school ministry and took on leadership responsibilities as the representative of girls in her senior class. She started a small clothing business while her GPA and test scores rewarded her love of learning. And she excelled as a golfer on the junior circuit and as a member of the Amador Valley High girls team. 

As a result of finding enjoyment in so many pursuits, Shaw sought out a school that would embrace and enhance her growth as a whole person. And she believes the educational setting and golf program offered at Biola will support her success in every area. 

"I chose Biola because of its commitment to a biblically centered college experience. I am so stoked to have the opportunity to join a community where Jesus is highlighted in everything we do, and I can't wait to make new friends who have a love for the gospel," said Shaw. "I am especially excited to meet my new teammates on the golf team and grow under the mentorship of Coach Carr!"

Shaw has collected a number of golf accolades across her play with Amador Valley and in tournaments administered by the Junior Golf Association of Northern California. She's earned a team award or All-East Bay League honors after all three of her seasons with the Dons, including a Coach's Leadership Award as a sophomore and second team all-league honors last year. 

On the junior circuit, Shaw has posted two sub-70 scores on 18-hole rounds and has won two JGANC events since this past July.   

"Rachel is going to be a wonderful addition to our 2021 team. What I appreciate most about Rachel is her passion for the game and incredible work ethic," said Head Coach Jane Carr. "She has the ability to go low as evidenced by a recorded tournament round of 69 this past year and she has been on the varsity golf team all four years at her high school. I have been impressed by her maturity and depth of character."

Like many of her future teammates, Shaw also has aspirations for her academic program at Biola that match her drive to succeed as a golfer. The Northern California-native has earned a 4.1 weighted GPA in her high school coursework and plans to major in business management with a concentration in entrepreneurship. She then hopes to immediately apply that learning to her personal business that offers handmade sustainable clothing.
