LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Over the course of the past spring and summer the Biola Tennis Center has undergone a face lift. The six-court complex has expanded to eight courts with additional entrances, a brand new team room, eight video cameras for live streaming and a small picnic area.
The grand opening event for the renovated complex is set for Saturday, September 14 and will be hosted by the Eagles Athletic Association. Former French Open champion Michael Chang will headline a short ceremony. Guests will also be invited to play on the new courts. The ceremony and open play time will run from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. that Saturday.
Admission is free and will include some light refreshments. We just ask that guests please register so we know how many to anticipate. Please contact Katie Hendrickson at katie.hendrickson@biola.edu with any questions.
ABOUT MICHAEL CHANG
Michael Chang set numerous youngest player records, turning pro at just 15 years of age. In 1987, he was the youngest player to win a main draw match at the U.S. Open and the youngest to reach a Tour semifinal. Just two years later, Chang became the youngest French Open/Grand Slam Champion while also ranking in the top-5.
He continues to compete in the PowerShares Series with other tennis legends of his time. In addition to competing, coaching (including #6 ranked, Kei Nikoshori), leading the Chang Family Foundation and hosting one of Orange County's premiere tennis tournaments, Michael enjoys time with his wife, Amber, and their three children.
