Johnson Looks To Reach New Heights

High Jumper and CMA major joins Biola Track & Field

June 03, 2019

ESCONDIDO, Calif. --- Caleb Johnson, hailing from the beautiful town of Escondido, has committed to join Biola Track & Field, beginning in 2020.

Johnson just graduated from Santa Fe Christian Schools where he was a standout multi-sport athlete for the Eagles. He ran track, played football and also has a strong swimming background.

"I was searching for a school that would grow me in both my faith and my goals in track and cinematography, and Biola was the perfect catalyst to do that," said Johnson. "I am beyond excited to compete as a collegiate athlete not only in the sport I love but for the school I love as well."

On the track, Johnson specializes in high jump. He comes into his collegiate career with a personal-best mark of 6-feet-0-inches. He's just over half a foot shy of the Eagles' career record, held by Jason Ridgeway (1997).

During high school Johnson was named his track team MVP and twice won the school's "Eagle Award." He finished his high school career with the program's second-best all-time high jump mark.

He was also a two-way starter on the Eagles' football team, leading his team to a championship during his junior season. Johnson was given the football team's STAR award for his efforts during his senior campaign.

In swimming, he was a team USA Junior Olympian in 2014.

When not competing or studying he spent a lot of time volunteering to give back to his community. Johnson coached the youth church football team for three years, served at his church, co-led a Bible study and designed logos and made films for his friends.

He plans to study film production when he arrives at Biola.
