LIVERMORE, Calif. --- Kaylie Lawsen keeps herself busy, running four years of varsity track & field and cross country, earning prestigious academic honors and volunteering regularly in her community.

She'll look to take that all to the next level as she transitions to Biola University this coming fall. Lawsen is following in the footsteps of her older sister, Taylor, who's competed with Biola the last three years.

"I learned of Biola from my sister, and after visiting the school I fell in love with the campus and the people and felt like this is where God was calling me," said Lawsen.

She comes to Biola after a successful career at Granada High School, where she helped the Matadors to East Bay Athletic League championships and sectional and state meet appearances. Lawsen also qualified to compete in the North Coast Section Meet of Champions in track & field.

She brings with her to Biola personal-best times of 2:29.31 in the 800m, 5:15.46 in the 1,600m and 11:30.27 in the 3,200m.

Lawsen was recognized for her academic achievements with the California State Seal of Merit, was considered a Top Scholar and earned a community service honor cord at her recent commencement ceremony.

She plans to major in psychology and pursue a career as a counselor. On the side, Lawsen enjoys painting and drawing and was a part of her high school art club. She was a leader at her church youth group and took time to volunteer at a Girl Scout camp each summer.
