Most Improved Runner Joins Up

Vonn Roy had a breakout season in 2018-19 and looks for more at Biola.

June 19, 2019

RIDGECREST, Calif. --- Vonn Roy made major strides during his final high school season, setting him up well for a successful four-year career as a member of Biola Cross Country and Track & Field.

Roy was named Burroughs High School's most improved runner in cross country in 2018, earning all-league honors with a top-10 finish. He and his family relocated to Ridgecrest and Burroughs for his final two seasons after Roy was brought up in Yuma, Arizona.

"I chose to come to Biola because I saw myself succeeding and reaching my full potential here compared to other colleges," said Roy. "Running for a college has always been one of my dreams ever since I can remember and now that it has come true I can't wait to get to work and show others what I can do."

In addition to cross country, Roy plans to run the 400m, 800m and relays for Biola Track & Field. He comes to the school with a 400m personal-best of :52.24 and an 800m PR of 2:06.40.

He was a cross country CIF Finalist his senior season and was a Mojave River League finalist in track as well. His senior year performances also enabled him to win the 2019 George Burdick Award.

Roy plans to major in business management at Biola and has aspirations of running professionally after graduation and then going on to "enjoy an adventurous life with my future family."

During high school he was an honor roll student and also a part of the President's Education Awards Program for Outstanding Academic Excellence.

Catch him and his teammates in September when they begin the season at the 2019 Biola Invitational at Craig Regional Park.

Roy will join the Biola Eagles for their first season of NCAA postseason eligibility in 2019-20. More information about other incoming student-athletes can be found on the Committed Athletes page.
