ST. FRANCIS BAY, South Africa --- Head Coach Ryan Kauth adds an newcomer from South Africa who specializes in sprint freestyle in Kyle De Villiers. De Villiers was a standout throughout his high school career, earning the team's swimmer of the year award each of his four years.

He competed for the Penguins of Nico Malan High School and also was invited to compete at the South African level three championships on two occasions.

"The Biola experience was amazing. During my visit I always felt welcome. The other students were extremely friendly and the campus is absolutely beautiful," said De Villiers. "I also have a strong attraction to the Christian values which everyone on campus respects and loves. Coach Ryan played a big part in my decision. I was quickly able to identify that he had a solid family-type bond with his team. I could also see that he wanted everyone to work hard to reach their maximum potential."

De Villiers was a great high school student, achieving second place standing in his graduating class. He maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout high school and earned an award for being one of the best academics in the province. He plans to major in engineering when he comes to Biola.

When he's not swimming or studying, De Villiers enjoys spending his time outdoors. His hobbies include spearfishing, hunting and surfing. He was also a part of his school's Christian organization, called the United Christian Student Association. As part of the UCSA he'd lead weekly devotionals on his campus.
