Signing announcement for Troy Yarter

Three-Sport Star Commits

Valedictorian and team captain Troy Yarter chooses BU.

May 30, 2019

CHEHALIS, Wash. --- Biola Track & Field announces the addition of a well-rounded athlete and skilled team leader, Troy Yarter. Yarter excelled at three varsity sports throughout his time at W.F. West High School, going to state in football, basketball and track & field.

He was the team captain for track and earned 10 varsity letters total during his time with the Bearcats. He qualified individually for the track & field state meet twice and also earned all-league honors in football and was invited to the all-state football game.

"I chose Biola for its strong biblical approach to science education and the community," said Yarter. "I'm excited to run track in the warm sun of Southern California."

Yarter competes in the jumps, sprints and also throws the javelin. He comes to Biola with a long jump personal-best of 6.23m and triple jump personal-best of 12.64m and a best javelin toss of 45.72m.

Outside of his athletic skills, Yarter is a gifted student and excellent member of his community. He graduated as the class valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA and honors in STEM and humanities. He is also a member of the National Honors Society.

He plans to major in engineering physics when he arrives at Biola.

"I would like to use engineering skills to lead mission trips and make a difference in people's lives," said Yarter.

He's also a Bible study group leader, peer mentor for college and career readiness and a volunteer youth basketball coach. In addition to all of that, he lets off some steam as president of his school's ping pong club.

Keep an eye out for Yarter as he begins his collegiate career next February. More information about other incoming student-athletes can be found on the Committed Athletes page.
