NEWBURY PARK, Calif. --- Biola Track & Field's throws program got a little bit deeper with the commitment of Gigi Fierro. Fierro will join the Eagles for the 2020 season after spending the last four years as a top thrower at Newbury Park High School.

She was awarded NPHS' top female thrower honors in 2017-18 and has the third-best all-time mark in the women's discus toss.

"I chose Biola because the same safety and peace I received when I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior is translated throughout the student body, the staff and coaches," said Fierro. "I am truly blessed to represent a university as a student-athlete that puts Jesus at the center of my education."

Fierro earned scholar-athlete recognition throughout her high school career and plans to study worship arts when she starts at Biola.

She is already well-suited for that profession after serving on the Newbury Park First Christian Church praise team and having the role of Co-Worship Leader for the youth ministries at NPFCC.

Fierro comes to Biola with a shot put personal-best over over 10 meters and a discus PR of just about 40 meters, which will allow her to contribute right away to the team's success.
