ROHNERT PARK, Calif. --- Worthy Gutierrez made an immediate impact on the track & field program at Rincon Valley High School, ranking sixth all-time with his freshman high jump mark. He will hope to have similar immediate success as he transitions to Biola Track & Field in spring 2020.

Gutierrez ranks first in his conference in 100m, 400m and high jump and is a two-time participant at the Berkeley Meet of Champions. He comes into Biola with career-best marks of 1.82m in the high jump, 19' 8.5" in the long jump and :23.07 in the 200m and :51.79 in the 400m.

His high jump mark is just off Biola's best from this past season, which was 1.84m.

"I chose Biola University because of the strong community in provides and great nursing program," said Gutierrez. "I'm looking forward to being a part of the track and field team at Biola as competing at the collegiate level has always been a passion and goal of mine."

He plans to study nursing at Biola and go on to pursue a master's degree to become a nurse practitioner.

During his high school career he managed a 3.9 GPA and took dual-enrollment college classes in Spanish, English and math.

Look for Gutierrez and the rest of the Biola Track & Field newcomers when BU begins its competition in February of 2020.
