Signing announcement for Anna Haaksma

Another Eagle Comes West

Anna Haaksma remains an Eagle but moves from Michigan to California with her commitment to Biola Swim & Dive.

May 22, 2019

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. --- Anna Haaksma will join Biola Swim & Dive in fall of 2019 as a breaststroke and individual medley specialist for BU. Haaksma joins a diverse incoming class as another out-of-state student-athlete, hailing from Grand Rapids Christian High School in the well-known Michigan city.

Haaksma was an Eagle in high school and is eager to continue her career as an Eagle at Biola.

"I chose Biola because of the strong community and common drive to grow relationships with one another and Christ," she said. "I am excited for a new chapter in life at Biola as I grow in my relationship with Christ, meet new people, study a major that excites me, and continue my swim career!"

She plans to major in kinesiology with plans of going on to a career as a physical therapist.

Haaksma was a standout swimmer throughout her high school career in Michigan, recording three years of all-conference honors and three years of all-state honors. In addition to the accolades in the pool, she earned academic all-state recognition for her work in the classroom.

She is involved in the community, participating as a coach and teacher in the SOAR program. Through her work with this program, she has the chance to teach and coach swim to young kids with special needs.

Catch Haaksma and the Eagles in the pool this October, when they open their 2019-20 season with Pacific Coast Swim & Dive Conference competition at the SPLASH! Aquatic Center. It's also the first season swimmers and divers are eligible to qualify for NCAA Division II postseason competition.
