Lugo Set To Let Loose

Alejandro Lugo brings another scoring threat to Biola’s midfield after earning back-to-back all-league honors at Cathedral High.

April 16, 2019

ALTADENA, Calif. --- With his performances over his junior and senior seasons at soccer power Cathedral High School, Biola Men's Soccer commit Alejandro Lugo couldn't be a more perfect fit for the Phantoms No. 10 jersey.

Coming into his senior campaign, Lugo producing the outstanding scoring numbers that you would expect from the maestro of a team's attack. MaxPreps credits Lugo with 22 goals and 13 assists during his junior season, giving him league MVP honors and helping the Phantoms to a CIF Southern Section Division I Final and a State Semifinal.

Lugo wore No. 17 as a junior while Cathedral went 23-4-2 and finished the season as Top Drawer Soccer's ninth-ranked team nationally. Then he joined the Phantoms football team as a kicker in the fall before donning the highly-coveted No. 10 jersey in another memorable season for Cathedral. Lugo earned another all-league honors as the Phantom traveled as far as Texas for a number of selective invitational tournaments before finishing the season as the No. 2 ranked team in California.

The attacking-mid also showed a flair for the dramatic as the Phantoms made another deep playoff run, going to the CIF-SS Division I Final and the State Final. In the Southern Section second round game on February 9, Lugo chased a pass to the endline and delivered an incredible assist on a game-winner featured by the L.A. Times. Then Lugo sent his team to the CIF Regional Finals just 19 days later with a golden goal rocket against Torrey Pines after assisting on the Phantoms' first goal.

Lugo scored 10 more goals this season and had six assists on his way to another First Team All-Del Rey League honor. He also earned First Team All-Southern Section for his club team in the ENCL and collected four "A" honors and three "B" honors at Cathedral. He plans to major in nursing at Biola and hopes to help those in need while providing for his family.

Lugo was a sought-after prospect for Head Coach Todd Elkins due to his ability to make dangerous runs, hit targets with both feet and for his dangerous passing. The Eagles would certainly be thrilled if Lugo quickly take the No. 10 jersey and role for the team as the Altadena-native make a home close to the people who care for him.

"I choose Biola because it's close to family and because I met great people there when I went to visit," said Lugo. "The vibe on campus was just great and I knew Biola was the place I wanted to be."

Lugo will join the Biola Eagles for their first season of NCAA postseason eligibility in 2019. More information about other incoming student-athletes can be found on the Committed Athletes page.
