ROUND ONE RESULTS
 

ALAMEDA, Calif. --- Head Coach Jane Carr's Biola Eagles played the first round of the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout on a clear but chilly day in Alameda on Monday. The Eagles climbed as high as seventh-place in the 19-team field early in the day with sophomore Rachel Reynolds leading the way with a plus-one score through six holes.

Biola then concluded the day with a team score of 321 that puts it in 13th place and ahead of two PacWest peers with 18 holes left to play. The Eagles are also just two shots behind the Holy Names Hawks, who they surpassed on the final day at the PacWest Championships in 2018, and are 11 strokes outside of the top-five on the team leaderboard. 

Sophomore Sophia Karnazes shot the low round of the day for the Eagles with 3 birdies and 9 pars on the day.  Starting on the 13th hole Karnazes was 4 over after her first five holes, yet she managed to stay very steady throughout the remainder of the round finishing the day with a 6 over 78.  She'll start Tuesday in a tie for 27th place and three strokes behind the top-15 individuals at the tournament. 

Karnazes was one of three Eagles who recorded multiple birdies on Monday. The other two women were Biola's No. 2 Sami Penor with two birdies at 80 and No, 3 Jules Loibl with two birdies at 81. Both Penor and Loibl shot a 39 on the front nine while Penor finished nine holes with par to equal Karnazes. 

Tori Roeske rattled off a few par scores of her own near the end of her round as she shot +1 from holes five to 13. The Westlake Village-native converted a birdie putt on the par-three 11 to help her finish the front and back nines with matching 37 scores and to help her match Reynolds, who also birdied on a par-three during her second hole. 

Reynolds carded an 86 in her first round of the 2018-19 competition year while Marcel Manalo turned in an 82 as an individual player at the tournament. 

The Eagles will return to the South Course of the Corika Golf Complex on Tuesday to start round two at 8:45 a.m.
